In 2023, with the pandemic behind them and new leadership in place, the Lenawee Community Foundation (LCF) team sought to build upon their strengths and look to their future. During planning discussions, one limitation of pandemic funding kept coming up - LCF had limited amounts of unrestricted funds available to meet emergency community needs and challenges. Due to this lack of flexibility, LCF was often unable to fund critical nonprofit programs and community projects because no fund matched the request.
The solution came out of partnerships with donors and collaboration with the community to start a fundraising campaign to launch the Health, Happiness and Hope (H3) Fund. To help LCF meet this bold goal, a generous donor stepped forward with a $1 million match and the LCF Board of Directors personally committed over $200,000 toward the new initiative.
The unrestricted assets in the H3 Fund will allow LCF to be nimble, flexible and responsive to their community’s urgent needs while also looking ahead to prepare for future community opportunities and challenges. The H3 Fund impacts five priority areas:
Rapid, flexible impact in times of urgency or unanticipated need
Strategic, long-term investment to drive change
Local solutions for unique needs
Leveraging opportunities and other funding sources
Support for nonprofit partners when it is needed

We are pleased to share that the Lenawee Community Foundation surpassed their original fundraising goal of $2 million and continue to build on their success now and forever.
